The Sports Rise adheres to the four principles of the Society of Professional Journalists Code of Ethics:
1. Seek truth and report it
We take responsibility for the accuracy of our work. We verify before we publish. We identify sources clearly and gather information by honest means. We label advocacy and commentary.
2. Minimise harm
We balance the public's need for information against potential harm or discomfort. We show compassion for those who may be affected by our coverage. We are especially careful with minors, victims of crime, and people unfamiliar with public life.
3. Act independently
We avoid conflicts of interest, real or perceived. We refuse gifts, favours, free travel, and special treatment from the subjects of our coverage. We disclose unavoidable conflicts. We distinguish news from advertising.
4. Be accountable and transparent
We explain our choices. We respond quickly to questions about accuracy, clarity, and fairness. We acknowledge mistakes and correct them promptly. We abide by the same high standards to which we hold others.
