Lesson 3 of 5 · Learn Drone Racing League

How Scoring Works

Scoring in DRL is based on finishing position in each heat. The better you place, the more points you earn. Accumulated points decide who wins a Level and who earns a World Championship spot.

DRL Advancement Rules:

  • Each semifinal group of six pilots flies six heats
  • A pilot needs two heat wins to advance to the Finals
  • If a group doesn't produce enough qualifiers, a sudden-death heat fills the remaining Finals spots

The Golden Heat:

  • Six finalists race regular heats, then compete in a decisive Golden Heat
  • Heat winners, and pilots with two second-place finishes, qualify for the Golden Heat
  • The Golden Heat winner is named the Level winner

MultiGP / Timed Formats:

  • Lap time starts when the pilot crosses the Start/Finish gate on a tone
  • A pilot's best single lap or three consecutive laps are recorded
  • These times are used for seeding pilots into competition brackets

Understanding both placement-based and timed scoring helps you follow any drone race format with confidence!
