Lesson 3 of 5 · Learn Flag Football

How Scoring Works

Scoring in flag football is straightforward. Here is every way your team can earn points:

Main Score:

  • Touchdown — Advance the ball into the opponent's end zone: 6 points.

After a Touchdown — Conversion Attempts:

  • 1-point conversion — Snap from the 5-yard line: 1 point.
  • 2-point conversion — Snap from the 12-yard line: 2 points.
  • If the defense intercepts a conversion attempt and returns it for a score, they earn 2 points.

Safety:

  • A safety occurs when a ball carrier has their flag pulled inside their own end zone: 2 points for the defense.
  • A safety on a conversion try is worth 1 point.

Winning:

  • The team with the most points after two halves wins.
  • There is no overtime in the regular season — a tie stands.
  • In playoffs, ties are broken by sudden-death conversion attempts, where each team picks a 1- or 2-point try until the tie is broken.
