Lesson 5 of 5 · Learn Lacrosse
Basic Strategy & Beginner Tips
Now that you know the rules, here are some smart strategies and tips to help you play your best.
Key Strategic Ideas:
- Play both ways — since there are no specialist positions, every player must contribute on offense AND defense
- Watch the shot clock — you only have 30 seconds per possession, so move quickly and look for scoring opportunities
- Push the ball forward fast — you must cross midfield within 10 seconds, so don't hesitate after gaining possession
- Stay out of the crease — entering the opponent's crease is a violation, so shoot or pass from outside it
Beginner Tips:
- Practice passing and catching first — ball movement is essential in a 6v6 game
- Communicate with teammates — small-sided games mean everyone needs to talk and coordinate
- Learn the difference between technical and personal fouls so you can avoid costly penalties
- After a goal, get back into position immediately — the goalkeeper restarts play within just 5 seconds
- Watch for man-down situations — if a teammate is penalized, your whole team must defend harder for 30 seconds
Stay active, stay aware, and enjoy the game!
