Understanding the field and gear is your next step as a beginner. **The Field:** - The field is **rectangular**, measuring **70 metres long and 36 metres wide** - For non-sanctioned events, dimensions can range roughly **55–75 m long** and **35–55 m wide** - There is **one goal at each end** of the field - Each goal has a **goal crease** — a protected area around it - A **centre line** divides the field into two halves **Key Zones to Know:** - The **crease** around your opponent's goal is off-limits to attacking players - The goalkeeper has **protected status** inside their own crease - The **centre line** is a boundary the goalkeeper must never cross during play **Basic Equipment:** - Players use a **lacrosse stick** (a long handle with a mesh pocket) to carry, pass, and shoot the ball - A **lacrosse ball** is used during play - The **goalkeeper** has special protected gear suited for stopping shots Knowing the layout of the field will help you understand positioning and where the action happens during a game!
