What Is Lacrosse Sixes & What's the Objective?
Lacrosse Sixes is a fast, exciting format of lacrosse developed by World Lacrosse. It is a hybrid of field and box lacrosse, and it will be the format used for the sport's Olympic return at Los Angeles 2028.
The goal is simple: score more goals than the opposing team by sending the ball into their goal, while stopping them from doing the same.
Here are the key basics to know:
- Each team fields six players — five field players and one goalkeeper
- There are no specialist positions, so every player contributes on both offense and defense
- Match rosters hold up to 12 players total
- A full game is four 8-minute quarters of running time
- There is a 15-minute halftime between the second and third quarters
- Total playing time is about 32 minutes, making the whole event roughly 45 minutes
This small-sided, fast-paced format is designed to be beginner-friendly and exciting to watch. Everyone on the field has an equal role, which makes it a great team sport for newcomers!
