Lesson 2 of 5 · Learn Roundnet

Lesson 2: The Playing Area & Equipment

One of the best things about Roundnet is how little gear you need to get started. Here is what the game requires:

The Net:

  • A circular, trampoline-style net roughly 36 inches (about 90 cm) in diameter
  • Stands on legs that hold the rim approximately 8 inches off the ground
  • Net tension is set so a ball dropped from 5 feet bounces about 20 inches high

The Ball:

  • A small inflatable ball with a circumference of about 12 inches (standard size)

The Playing Space:

  • No court boundaries — play occurs in 360 degrees around the net
  • At the start of each point, players line up in a cross formation
  • The server stands directly opposite (180 degrees from) the designated receiver

Because there are no sidelines, any open area works as a venue. The net is the only fixed reference point in the game. Keeping the net properly tensioned is important — incorrect tension can cause unpredictable bounces and unfair play.
