Lesson 3 of 5 · Learn Squash
How Scoring Works
Squash uses Point-A-Rally (PAR) scoring, which has been the universal WSF standard since 2009.
The key idea: the winner of *every* rally scores 1 point — it does not matter who served.
Winning a game:
- Each game is played to 11 points
- If the score reaches 10-all, play continues until one player leads by 2 clear points (for example, 12-10 or 13-11)
Winning the match:
- In a best-of-five, the first player to win 3 games wins the match
- In a best-of-three, the first to win 2 games wins
Why PAR matters for beginners:
- Every single rally counts — you can score even when your opponent is serving
- This keeps matches exciting and competitive at all times
- There is no such thing as a "free" rally in modern squash
Focus on winning each rally one at a time, and the points will add up!
