What Is Squash and What's the Objective?
Squash is a racket sport played by two players inside a fully enclosed four-walled court.
The objective is straightforward: hit the ball against the front wall in a way your opponent cannot return correctly. A rally is lost when:
- The ball bounces twice on the floor before being returned
- A player fails to hit the ball back to the front wall properly
Each player uses a strung racket to strike a small hollow rubber ball. Players hit alternately — you hit, your opponent hits, and so on.
Winning the match:
- A standard match is the best of five games (first to win 3 games wins)
- A best of three format is also used
Before the match begins, there is a 5-minute warm-up, giving each player 2.5 minutes to get familiar with the ball and court conditions.
Squash is fast-paced and requires quick thinking, good movement, and accurate shot-making — but the core idea is simple: keep the ball in play better than your opponent!
