Lesson 3: How Scoring Works

Teqball uses rally scoring, which means a point is awarded on every single rally — you do not need to be serving to win a point.

Winning a Set:

  • The first side to reach 12 points wins the set.
  • If you are playing the deciding third set, it must be won by a two-point margin. If both sides reach a one-point lead at the cap, play continues until someone leads by two.

Winning the Match:

  • The first side to win two sets wins the match.
  • Matches are best-of-three sets.

Service Rotation:

  • Under current FITEQ rules (effective 16 May 2026), the serve changes after every 2 points.

Here is a quick summary:

  • Point scored → opponent failed a legal return
  • Set won → first to 12 points
  • Match won → first to win 2 sets

Because every rally counts, staying focused throughout the entire match is essential — even when you are behind.
