Key Rules & Fouls to Know
Lacrosse Sixes has clear rules that keep the game fast and fair. Here are the most important ones for beginners.
Possession Rules:
- A team must advance the ball over midfield within 10 seconds of gaining possession
- Each possession is governed by a 30-second shot clock — a shot on goal must be attempted before it expires or the team loses possession
- The goalkeeper may never touch, step on, or cross the centre line during play
- Attacking players may not enter the opponent's crease
Penalties:
All time-serving penalties are a flat 30 seconds, and the offending player's team plays short-handed.
- Technical fouls (less serious — e.g., pushing, holding, interference, off-side): 30-second penalty that is releasable — it ends early if the opposing team scores. If the fouling team had possession, they simply lose the ball.
- Personal fouls (more serious — e.g., slashing, tripping, illegal body checking, unsportsmanlike conduct): 30-second penalty that is non-releasable — served in full no matter what
Understanding fouls helps you play smart and avoid giving the other team an advantage!
