Frequently asked questions

What is a good passer rating?

Anything above 100 is very good, and 158.3 is the maximum possible ("perfect") rating. A rating around 90 is roughly league average in professional play.

How is passer rating calculated?

It combines four components — completion percentage, yards per attempt, touchdown percentage and interception percentage — each scaled and capped at 2.375, then averaged and multiplied by 100/6.

Why is 158.3 the maximum?

Each of the four components is capped at 2.375. With all four at the cap, ((2.375 x 4) / 6) x 100 = 158.3.
